Today we walked out of the hotel to see a beautiful red design in the middle of the street .It was done for Holy Week and they are called “carpets”. There will be more and more as the week goes on. Some of our group will design carpets on Friday.
It was a big day for school. Natalie taught almost all day, though school was really in session only in the morning. The children followed her, surrounded her, clung to her and wanted to practice their new English words all the time. School is held under a thatched roof, outdoors.
The children sang Happy Birthday to Jeannette and then all ran up to hug her so eagerly that she almost fell over. She showed pictures from her family and the 26 inches of snow in Baltimore in February.
Later you can see her up on the scaffolding with Jim and Kelly filling in gaps between concrete block with mortar. Tom has graduated to actually placing blocks, just like the professional masons.
You’ll see several other construction pictures and Salvadoran Cultural Sharing in the afternoon.There was music, dancing, wonderful food and we got to try making “pupusas”... delightful tortillas filled with cheese and beans. Tom, Kelly, and Jim literally made almost one hundred.

LOVED talking with you this morning! That was a special treat for me since we usually talk many times a day! We are ALL missing you - can't wait until you come home - SO glad that you are having a great time in El Salvador - helping! We had an uneventful day - I have taken most of the week off to take care of odd things around the house - dead plants - etc...it was almost 80 degrees today and going to be a BEAUTIFUL weekend for EASTER!
I CANNOT wait to hear all the stories of the trip!
